Custom D+ plus size bra material selection

When it comes to choosing fabrics for plus size bra products, there are a variety of materials to choose from. Here are some of the fabrics that Chinese manufacturing factories often use in plus size bra customization:
One of the potentially confusing parts of making a bra is choosing the fabric, and on my blog I provide a general guide to choosing a material.

As with many bras, at least four different fabrics are required; (1) cup, bridge and band fabric, (2) lace, (3) band fabric and (4) lining. I'll tell you what are you looking for in each category?

1) Cup, bridge and frame fabric
When looking for fabrics for bra making, your main concerns are stretch, which means the fabric contains spandex fibers (also known as lycra and elastane), and give, which means the fabric needs support during movement.

The fabric of the bra cups is not stretchy to support the breasts and create a more gathered breast shape. When you're looking for cup fabrics, consider smooth, thin, and strong fabrics, as you'll need to support the bra and push up to wrap around the breasts. At the same time, it also needs to take into account comfortable and wear-resistant fabrics.

Typical bra cup fabric fibers are cotton, nylon, polyester, spandex and silk. Bra fabrics are usually tricot, raschel or even jersey.

Cotton: Cotton is a natural fiber known for its softness and breathability. Cotton bras are good for everyday wear and they absorb moisture well. However, they may lack the stretch and support some styles need. It is often used together with elastic fibers to make bra fabrics.

Lycra/Spandex/Elastane: These elastane synthetic fibers are often blended with other materials to provide stretch and a snug fit. They are essential for bras that require stretching and recovery, such as sports bras.

Nylon: Nylon is a durable synthetic fiber that is often used in bras. It can be blended with other materials for enhanced durability, stretch and comfort. Nylon bras are smooth and have a silky look.

Polyester: Another synthetic fiber used in bras, polyester is durable and wrinkle-resistant. It can also be blended with other fibers for enhanced properties like moisture wicking.

Microfiber: Microfiber fabrics are made of very fine fibers and have a soft and smooth texture. They are often used in bras for their comfort, moisture-wicking properties, and ability to create a stylish look under clothing.

Mesh: Mesh fabric is lightweight and breathable for bra designs that require ventilation. Mesh panels or inserts are often incorporated into sports bras and certain fashion styles. Lightweight, breathable, and sexy, mesh fabrics are often used in plus-size custom bras.

Lace: Lace adds decorative and feminine personality to bras, with a flirty touch. It can be made from a variety of fibers, including nylon, polyester, and even natural fibers like cotton. Lace bras are often worn for special occasions or to enhance beauty.

Silk: Silk is a luxurious natural fiber known for its smoothness and softness. Silk bras are comfortable and generally considered a premium choice. However, they may require special ways to wash and store.

Modal: Modal is a semi-synthetic fiber made from beech wood pulp. It has a soft feel and excellent moisture-wicking properties, making it ideal for bras that focus on comfort and breathability.

Bamboo: Bamboo fabrics are also becoming popular for their eco-friendly and sustainable properties. Bamboo bras are known for their softness, moisture-wicking abilities, and antibacterial properties.

Tulle: Tulle is a fine mesh fabric that is often used for decorative purposes in bra designs. It adds a sophisticated, airy look to the bra.

Jersey: Jersey is often used for bra straps or linings. They are comfortable, lightweight and slightly stretchy.

Brands often choose fabrics based on the specific function and design of the bra. For example, a sports bra might call for moisture-wicking and stretchy materials, while an everyday bra might prioritize comfort and smoothness. The choice of fabric can greatly affect the overall feel, performance and aesthetics of a bra product.

The bridge and frame also need to be made of low-motion or even non-stretch fabrics to hold the cups in place on the body. Generally, these parts of the bra use the same material as the cups, as well as the stabilizing lining of the wire.

 (2) lace
The basic principles of bra cup fabric selection: thin, smooth, strong. Now it is obvious that lace will deviate from the thin and smooth characteristics, but we should pay attention to the texture selection of lace. In the fabric selection, we should pay attention to the finer and denser mesh at the bottom.

Plus size bras top cups are fairly dense and rigid (non-stretchy) lace with scalloped edges on the finished edge of the top cups. You can use stretch lace instead if you prefer. If your lace is stretchy, delicate, or not very dense, I recommend using a liner fabric under the lace for extra support and stability, especially in plus sizes above D and DD cup sizes.

3) wing fabric
The fabric of the straps must have the proper stretch to allow for comfortable breathing and movement when the client is wearing the bra.

Our custom plus size bra wing features less stretch. Wing fabrics come in different densities, including double-knit varieties. For more support, or to make the straps feel tighter, you can use a denser or lower stretch mesh, or you can use a double layer of lighter weight mesh.

If you don't like the look of power mesh, you can layer stretch lace or stretch fabric on top of it. Just make sure the upper fabric has the same or more stretch than the power mesh underneath it, and test the combination of the two during the plain weave (aka muslin) process to make sure the straps have enough stretch for your need. comfortable. Depending on the fabric involved, you may need to add to the straps.

4) Lining
The lining fabric is used to stabilize the nose bridge of the bra, and it should also not be stretchy, but softer and more delicate.
